Highlight: It’s college application season, and it’s time to decide on a major! If you are interested in staying ahead of the AI curve then becoming a therapist, more specifically, a recreational therapist, is definitely one distinctively human program option to consider! Ranked No.1 in North America for recreation and leisure research, the University of Waterloo in Ontario offers 3 Therapeutic Recreation tracks for exploring how recreation plays a role in improving quality of life for marginalized populations. Work with patients in long-term care, at-risk youth, those with developmental differences in ability, and more with this Therapeutic Recreation program! Participate in the PAID co-op stream (the only one in Ontario) to take what you’ve learned in the classroom and apply it to the real world, working as a Recreation Therapist or a Research Assistant or even a Community Recreation Facilitator. Even outside of co-op, take part in required practicum placements to gain industry experience. Apply to Recreation and Leisure Studies and then choose Therapeutic Recreation as your subject of major interest, or pursue Therapeutic Recreation as a minor once you begin your studies. Who says you can’t mix work and play?!
