Program Length: Part-time; You have up to 5 years to successfully complete all of the courses that are part of your chosen program

Location: All courses are in-class on the Niagara-on-the-lake campus (…Ontario’s wine region!). All 3 wine programs are affected by COVID-19Wine making program is currently being delivered in a hybrid method, meaning students will have a combination of on-campus and online course

Admissions Req: All programs  require an OSSD (Ontario Secondary School Diploma) with grade 12 (c) or (U) English and Math plus either  grade 11 or 12 Biology or Chemistry…Certified Sommelier (only one of the programs with more specific entrance requirements)

    • Must be familiar with the basics of grape growing, wining making, know issues and trends in wine/ food, have the ability to smell/ taste wine & serve customers
    • Must be 19 years old
    • Prior course work should include two courses in some aspect of wine; those without prerequisite courses must pass a theoretical & practical entrance exam

The certified sommelier program is designed to provide sommeliers with the crucial skills and knowledge to develop, design and execute certain wine programs for several organizations. You will have expertise in not only food and wine pairing but also discuss other beverages and how they relate to food. Interested in wine marketing/ management? Niagara College also offers courses which will prepare students looking to explore a career in the wine and beverage management, wine sales/ marketing industry overall. You will study different aspects of the growing wine industry which will open up multiple career opportunities for you. Join the award winning commercial teaching winemaking program which offers a combination of theoretical knowledge and skills learning with practical hands on experience. The curriculum covers both the business and science of winemaking which allows you to explore other career paths such as: oenologist, vineyard manager, cellar manager, cellar hand, wine researcher and an expert winemaker.
