For apprenticeships, there are no hard admission requirements. However, it is preferred to be a student and from nearby schools within Washington State, but it also looks like they would be super flexible with accommodating those with research proposals from other school. Kwiaht is a scientific organization which is the historical center of ecology of the Salish sea. The Kwiaht programs offers intertested students an opportunity to get involved in the scientific research and ecological stewardship in the San Juan Islands. The Kwiaht programs are set up to support the mission of Kwiaht that focuses on the historical ecology of the sea. Kwiaht programs include Apprenticeships and Volunteer programs. Interested participants for Kwiaht Apprenticeship programs can be in middle school to graduate students. Apprentices should be in or near Washington state. Students get to work with an associate, gain hands on experience and sometimes their research gets published. The length of the Kwiaht programs depends on the type of research and it varies from 4-12 weeks. Participants interested in Kwiaht Volunteers programs receive training and work with all aged students in a variety of areas and can include marine life, plants, or animals and habitats. There really are very few requirements, and since the Kwiaht programs offers volunteer opportunities on an individual basis, technical training is an integral part.
