Highlight:  Dive into Real Science this summer at ISB! The Institute for Systems Biology (ISB) High School Internship Program offers current 11th graders a rare, fully paid opportunity to spend 8 weeks (end of June to mid-August) immersed in the world of professional research in Seattle, WA.  All applicants who complete the full application will be considered for the Systems Thinkers In STEM Ambassadorship, which includes virtual micro-workshops and courses. This High School Internship includes a $5,000 stipend and it opens the door to unique topics and skills rarely found in the classroom—from cutting-edge biology and genetics to computational modeling, big data analysis, and systems thinking. You’ll work alongside experienced scientists, gaining hands-on lab techniques, exploring real datasets, and learning how science tackles complex challenges like human health, climate change, and environmental sustainability. Past projects done by actual participants can be found on the intern website! For example, in 2023, interns researched projects like cancer treatments and allergic diseases, and much more.  In addition to lab work, interns at this High School Internship will participate in workshops on science communication, career pathways, and teamwork building skills that will serve them far beyond high school. No prior lab experience is needed, just curiosity, dedication, and the drive to explore science at a professional level. Check out this link to get a glimpse into the day of an intern!
