Highlight: The Congressional Internship sponsored by Michelle Steel and Ted Lieu allows students in college or those who have graduated to gain hands-on experience in a state government office.  Interns will write letters, conduct legislative research, assist with and perform the various administrative tasks that the office delivers.  To be a Congressional intern here, you must send a cover letter, resume, 1-2 page writing sample, have two professional or academic references, and mention the season you plan to take the internship. Some of the Congressional interns’ responsibilities  in Cypress may include attending local community meetings and events, assisting with constituent casework, and assisting with Certificates of Congressional Recognition…whereas in DC they may include drafting memos, assisting with front office duties, and attending briefings and hearings. Interns in both locations commit to 15 hours per week. This internship is not working on a campaign in a campaign office but rather working on implementing government policies and hearing concern within a community. So if you’re thinking about a career in government or politics and you live from California or Wahington DC, then check it out!
