Eligibility:
• Any middle or high school student (grade 6-12, or the international equivalent) is free to enter. This includes students in public, private and home-school programs.
• Students may be located anywhere in the world.
• Videos in languages other than English are welcome, but they must include English subtitles. Make sure to double check for typos as spelling errors can lead to video disqualification.

Application Deadline: All entries must be uploaded by 11:59 pm EST on Wednesday, February 22, 2023.

Highlight: Filmmaking is one of the most powerful tools to evoke emotions from its audience. The World of 8 Billion video contest invites students from grades 5 to 12 from across the world, to make a video that takes a critical look at global challenges related to population and possible solutions. For this video contest, students are to make a video about how the global population affects climate change, gender equality or waste as well as potential ways to address the problem. This video contest provides insights that allow you to understand how the global population could contribute to the major problems in our society and encourages its participants to explore the different contexts in which these very real and pervasive problems exist. Videos submitted by participants of the video contest should be no longer than 60 seconds not including the 5 seconds of the title image. Winners of this video contest from grades 9 to 12 shall receive $1,200, $600, and $300 each for first place, second place and honorable mentions respectively. Two honourable mentions shall be awarded, and all prizes are awarded per topic. For the middle school category of grades 5 to 8, winners of the video contest shall receive $600 and $300 for first place and second place respectively. Once again prizes are awarded per topic.
