Highlight: What do Tom Hanks and George Clooney have in common, aside from Hollywood? A historic shared ancestor! The study of Genealogy, or the study of families, allows us to find that Tom Hanks and George Clooney are actually seventh cousins. Are you a middle schooler or in high school? Then why not learn more about your family and heritage through the Rubincam Youth Writing Genealogy Competition and open your eyes to the way your family has grown and what makes your family special! This genealogy competition has a junior and senior section, so students like you, from 6th to 12th grade can participate and not only learn a little more about your family but also be in for a chance to win up to $500. As part of the genealogy competition, in just 750-1200 words, you will use source records to write a biographical narrative about your family, going back four generations. This genealogy competition has an annual deadline for the completed work on December 15th, giving you plenty of time to sit down, get comfortable, and dig into decades worth of your family’s heritage. Learn more about your own background and the life your ancestors lived with this genealogy competition, and apply today to not only be in for a chance to win $500 but to understand your family tree a little more! As Michael Cricton once said “If you don’t know your history then you don’t know anything. You are a leaf that doesn’t know it is part of a tree” so use this as your opportunity to learn about your family tree and sign up for this genealogy competition today!
