Sponsoring Institution: University of Lethbridge
Type: Writing Contest
Eligibility: Must be a registered student attending a Canadian college or university
Application Deadline: Late January
Highlight: Are you a current Canadian college student who enjoys writing? Then the University of Lethbridge’s bi-annual Bridge Prize may be the perfect writing contest for you! Instead of the reports, you may be used to in class, this writing contest allows students to produce creative writing pieces and express their creativity through short stories. Authors are allowed to submit multiple entries for a small $20 entry fee. The prizes of this writing contest include $7500 for the first-place winner, $1000 for three finalists, and a $200 gift card for all the winners. Another bonus: the FAQs state that winners retain the rights to their short stories and the University of Lethbridge only asks for permission to publish your story. The only guidelines for this writing contest are as follows: the word count for stories must be under 7,500 words, the stories must be in English, the stories cannot have been previously published, and each submission must be formatted based on the rules. Finally, your work will be judged by well-known Canadian authors such as Sam Wiebe, Joan Thomas, Bill Richardson, and more. So, if this short story writing contest sounds interesting to you, then don’t forget to apply. Start typing away and let your short story anthology begin!
