Highlight:
The Herblock Award for Editorial Cartoon contest, sponsored by The Herb Block Foundation, recognizes the work of students whose visual art offers commentary or criticism on current events, social issues, or political topics. Each year, this cartoon contest selects three students to receive a $2,000 scholarship, honoring the legacy of Herb Block, a four-time Pulitzer Prize-winning political cartoonist. Editorial cartoons, the focus of this cartoon contest, can take the form of single-panel drawings with captions, sequential comic art, illustrations, or digitally created works, as long as they convey a political theme or message. To apply, students must enter their work into any category of the Scholastic Art & Writing Awards and select “Editorial Cartoon” as the category. Deadlines for submissions vary by region, with some as early as December 1. So what are you waiting for?
