Highlight: The Earth is in danger. Things like climate change, deforestation, and pollution are slowly causing irreparable damage to our environment. Oftentimes people feel powerless against these forces in situations like this, but there are many ways we can make a positive impact on our environment. One way to learn more about options we have for creating positive impact is by joining organizations like the Sierra Club who sponsor programs like the Climate Justice Academy. The Climate Justice Program is an online fellowship for young people across the country (elementary school through grad school). During this 9-week climate justice program, fellows learn key leadership skills, meet other youth organizers, and take action for climate justice. Fellows participate in weekly 2-hour learning sessions to develop and expand their political analysis, skill up action planning tools, and build a virtual community with other youth organizers. Each semester of this climate justice program ends with the fellows taking action in their local communities. This Climate Justice Program encourages you to apply with 1-2 friends to create support and inspire personal community engagement. If you want a few more details, take a look at this sample program outline. Applications for this climate justice program open at the end December and close at the end of January. If you’re accepted you will receive an action kit and all resources to support your taking action in your community. If you have any further questions or concerns, definitely check out their FAQ page. If you’re still confused about something feel free to contact them at this email sierrastudent@sierraclub.org. The Climate Justice Program is an incredible opportunity for any student to take part in to build a solid knowledge foundation of issues and to understand effective ways to help make the world (or even just your small community) a healthier, safer, and greener place!
