  • Any Canadian Citizen or Permanent resident of Canada regardless of age, student or professional status.
  • Previous winners of the Dalton Camp Award are ineligible.
  • Previous winners of the Dalton Camp Student Prize are eligible.

Application Deadline:  Application typically open by late October and close by early January

Highlight:  This Essay Contest offers a substantial prize for the best creative and original essay of no more than 2,000 words discussing the link between democracy and the media. Established to honour the memory of Canadian public affairs commentator, this essay contest provides the opportunity to express your thoughts and hone your writing skills . Essays are to be judged on content and strength! It is open to students and the general public. This essay contest focuses on the theme of democracy and the role of media in shaping it. It encourages critical thinking, writing skills, and public discourse. Applicant’s essays must be submitted in a Word Document or other OpenDocument format through the form on the submission page. PDFs will not be accepted. Winners receive a cash prize of $10,000 and national recognition, which can boost academic and career opportunities. So, what do you think of the theme of democracy?
