Program Length: 6 weeks (July to mid August)
Location: Cooper Union, New York, NY
Admissions Req: Current high school sophomores or juniors (or, rising juniors and seniors in the summer that they attend) spending the summer in the Greater NYC area. This program is open to all students from anywhere in the world.
Highlight: Six-week intensive STEM program immersing high school sophomores and juniors in hands-on engineering design and problem-solving projects. Program is designed for BOTH students already interested in STEM subjects and careers AND those just looking to explore the possibility! Projects include robotics, digital fabrication, computer programming and app development, biomedical and genetic engineering, improved urban infrastructure, and even racecar design! Students attend workshops on oral presentation skills, technical writing, career counselling, and college admissions as well. Groups submit a technical writing assignment summarizing their research and present their work to an audience of invited guests at the end of the program . Financial: $3,250, plus the $50 application fee. As part of Cooper Union’s legacy financial aid will be made available, up to 100% of the cost, for students who either meet criteria of need and/or who are otherwise underrepresented in the STEM fields.
